Who is Gabe Silva?
I am an actor/model/podcaster by day… by night, I am a sophomore in high school who loves to watch TV and play video games.
Tell us all about your experience being a young actor? What are the most rewarding and challenging aspects of your career?
I started out taking acting classes, not really thinking that I would become a working actor. Acting quickly became a passion. Not only do I want to continue to act, I want to eventually direct and produce my own projects. I have had nothing but positive experiences as a young actor. I have gotten the opportunity to work with some amazing people. I cannot wait to see where this journey actually takes me. The most rewarding aspects of my career are getting to work and doing what I love. The most challenging aspects of being an actor is actually booking a job. You hear a lot of “no’s” before you get a “yes.”
What have been your favorite roles?
One of my favorite roles was playing Ollie in a short film, Timelight. And another one of my favorite roles was playing the grandson in Godzilla: King of Monsters.
How did you get involved in modeling for FadeLife Clothing?
I saw their line on Instagram, and loved it. I reached out to them, told them how I felt about the line, and became one of their ambassadors. The owner, Timothy, is a really talented designer.
Tell us about “Just Talk with Gabe.”
Just Talk With Gabe started in quarantine as something to do. I never thought that podcasting could actually be so fun. The show is an opportunity for listeners to get to know our guests through a totally relaxed atmosphere where they, “Just Talk With Gabe.” We are streamed on all major platforms and have been picked up in a lot of other countries.
What is your favorite part about having your own podcast series? Who has been your most interesting guest?
I think for me, my favorite part about having my own podcast is knowing that people are really enjoying the show. We work hard to make sure our Q&A is not boring and we ask things that people really want to know about our guests. I would have to say that all of my guests have been pretty interesting. I can honestly say that I have learned something unique about them all. But, I do have to say, interviewing the content creators from Halo House, in the season 2 finale, was wild!
You are the founder of an anti-bullying magazine, Action Magazine. That’s amazing. What inspired you to begin that?
I was bullied for my size when I was younger. I didn’t want kids who were suffering the same to think that they were alone. Many kids look up to those in the entertainment industry, so I thought that if they heard their stories and advice, they would know that they can get through it too. The magazine has grown from about 30 pages or so, to almost 300 interactive pages!
Why are you passionate about anti-bullying work? What can we be doing now as a community to mitigate bullying?
I am passionate about anti-bullying because I know how it feels and I don’t want anyone to think that they are alone. I think we all need to continue having an open dialogue about bullying. We need to realize that those that bully are also suffering too and need help. Open communication gets both sides to talking.
Why should we care about mental health? Is it important?
We should care about mental health because it is extremely important to having a healthy society overall. There are so many stigmas attached to mental health issues, and there shouldn’t be. Just as we all work out and take care of our bodies, we should do the same with our mental health. The overall well-being of a person includes physical, mental and emotional health. You can’t have one without the others.
